PORTFOLIO > Collage and Mixed Media

I am attracted to the characteristics of individual parts that, together, build something recognizable. In art, this might be a combination of lines, brushstrokes, or pixels. In relationships, this could be a gesture, an expression, or a touch. Using pieces of old figure studies and paintings, these works are inspired by the layers of emotion and memory.

Upon revisiting old work, I am captivated by sections of dynamic line-work and movement used to render the form. By removing sections from their original context, and rearranging parts, I begin to give these elements of previous drawings new meaning. Working in layers of mixed media, I allow myself to add more in places or take away; transforming the identity of each piece or revealing glimpses of what used to be. The resulting artwork parallels the human condition: a hash of new and old, figurative and abstract, deliberate decisions and unintentional ones.
