Community Art Education > Self Portrait Workshop with Incarcerated Youth at Travis Hill School, New Orleans, LA

For three weeks, in July 2024, I worked with youth in New Orleans Juvenile Justice Intervention Center. In the facility, Travis Hill School runs a Summer Social Justice Freedom School program where youth took visual art, music, philosophy, and creative writing classes. For my class, we focused on representational self portraiture and discussions about identity. A compilation of work created throughout the program was put together in the form of a digital magazine designed by creative writing teacher, Sharita A. Simms. You can check it out here.
