PORTFOLIO > Night Life

In New Orleans, for a portion of the year, nighttime offers respite from the heat. When the sun goes down, opportunities arise to play, move, and engage with the world. The aesthetics of night also foster a psychological shift. The sharp delineations of daylight give way as darkness pervades. Previously disparate shapes, colors, and forms merge together. Some things vanish, blur, or distort, and others are illuminated. Beauty is lost and beauty is found. As the landscape becomes more malleable and mysterious, space is created for exploration, inquiry, and transformation. These paintings are investigations into the colors of darkness, ambient light sources, and nocturnal settings that promote a sense of openness.
